Die verhoogdrama is gegrond op die gelyknamige roman van FRANCOIS SMIT en die nie-fiksie publikasie van NICO MOOLMAN, 'The Boer Whore'.
Kamphoer is 'n ware verhaal, en is verwerk vir die verhoog deur Cecilia du Toit in samewerking met Sandra Prinsloo en Lara Foot.

Na haar pa se dood tydens die oorlog, beland Susan en haar ma in die Winburg-konsentrasiekamp waar sy deur twee Britse offisiere en ’n joiner wreedaardig verkrag en vir dood agtergelaat word. Sy oorleef die gruweldaad en bekwaam haarself as sielkundige verpleegster in Nederland. Sy reis gedurende die Eerste Wêreldoorlog na ‘n psigiatriese hospitaal in Engeland waar haar paaie kruis met een van haar verkragters, waar hy as pasiënt aan bomskok lei. Met dié herontmoeting word Susan opnuut gekonfronteer met die die pyn en vernedering van haar verlede.

Die drama het met groot lof by die 2019 Vrystaat Kunstefees in Bloemfontein gedebuteer waarna Kamphoer verskeie nasionale toekennings ontvang het.

2019 was die 120ste gedenkjaar van die Anglo-Boereoorlog en die produksie bring hulde aan dié era.

KAMPHOER - die verhaal van Susan Nell.

The drama is based on the debut novel Kamphoer by Francois Smit and the non-fiction publication The Boer Whore by Nico Moolman and has been adapted for the stage by Cecilia du Toit, in collaboration with Sandra Prinsloo and Lara Foot.

Based on a true story, South African theatre legend Sandra Prinsloo appears in the role of Susan Nell, who faced an unspeakable ordeal during the Anglo-Boer War (1899 - 1902) in the Winburg concentration camp. Following her father’s death during the war, Susan and her mother end up in a concentration camp where she is brutally raped and left for dead by two British officers and a joiner.

She survives the ordeal, escapes the camp and is hidden in a cave by a Sotho couple, who nurse her back to health. She later qualifies as a psychiatric nurse in the Netherlands. Sixteen years later, she travels to England during the First World War and while serving at a military hospital for shell-shocked soldiers, she recognises a patient as one of her rapists. With this unfortunate reunion, Susan is once again confronted with the pain and humiliation of her past.

2019 was the 120th anniversary of the Anglo Boer War and the production pays tribute to this era.
